How Oral Mucositis May Affect You During Chemo
Development and progression of oral mucositis (mouth sores) may cause clinically significant problems, including:
- ✴ Opioid and/or analgesic use for pain
- ✴ Dose-limits/treatment interruptions
- ✴ Weight loss, inability to eat/drink
- ✴ Pathway for infection
- ✴ Increased ER visits and admittance
- ✴ Significantly higher healthcare costs
- ✴ Difficulty eating, talking, sleeping, smiling
Examples of oral mucositis.
If chemotherapy is part of your treatment plan, talk with your healthcare provider before starting chemotherapy about your risk for oral mucositis and if the Chemo Mouthpiece as oral cryotherapy may be part of your supportive care.
About the Chemo Mouthpiece®
The Chemo Mouthpiece® is an FDA-cleared oral cooling device used during chemo infusion and at home afterwards.
Developed by a cancer survivor (see David’s story) who experienced firsthand the severe effects of oral mucositis, the device is easy to use and delivers consistent cooling to help reduce the risk of painful mouth sores.
Patients using the Chemo Mouthpiece experienced significantly less pain and used significantly less analgesics and opioids.
The Chemo Mouthpiece requires a prescription from a healthcare provider. The device is shipped directly to patients from a specialty pharmacy.

How Oral Cryotherapy Works During Chemotherapy
The Chemo Mouthpiece® is an oral cryotherapy (cold temperature) device designed to deliver consistent, uniform cooling across the oral cavity.
When a cold Chemo Mouthpiece is placed in the mouth, the cooling effect causes vasoconstriction of local blood vessels which physically decreases the flow of circulating chemotherapy in the oral cavity.
This reduces the damage chemo drugs can cause to the mucous membranes in the mouth, reducing the incidence and severity of oral mucositis.
The Chemo Mouthpiece was Studied in a Clinical Trial
Born from personal experience and backed by clinical evidence, the Chemo Mouthpiece was evaluated in a multi-center, randomized clinical trial.
The Chemo Mouthpiece® is clinically proven to reduce the incidence and severity of chemotherapy induced oral mucositis.
